Exposition "FRESH OUT: RITOURNELLES / TEXTILES SONORES". Festival Design September 2010.

Tout tissu est une trace, un passage, une transmission, où le rapport à l’intimité se dévoile par le toucher, le regard, le parfum, l’ouïe… qu’ il nous couvre, habille nos espaces, les enrobe ou les sépare…
Chaque fragment, chaque fil, chaque point porte sa propre histoire.
La tentative est ici d’approcher les révélateurs de cette mémoire, de cette mélodie, de cette parole enfouie.

Les pièces proposées ici sont issues de mon projet de diplôme de Master en design textile « RITURNELLES / TEXTILES SONORES » honoré du prix Coups de Coeur de La Cambre 2010.

« Anneau de Moebius » et « Bande Gymnopédique » réinterprètent la 1ere Gymnopédie d’Erik Satie avec des altérations propres aux matériaux utilisés, tandis qu’une partition aléatoire est composée par la «Dentelle sonore ».
Pour le « Papier peint sonore » l’encodage d’un motif graphique initialement destiné à un métier à tisser est transposé en motif sonore.
Gammes et ritournelles y sont interprétées par des rayures de sergés, motifs de chevrons et armures de satins.
Le spectateur est invité à enclencher ces boîtes à musique ayant pour pistes de lectures: dentelle, tissu ajouré et papier peint.
« Ombrelle » est un manège hypnotique composé de centaines de fuseaux orchestrés par un moulinet de pêche, qui, en s’entrechoquant recréent l’ambiance sonore des ateliers de dentellières.
L’ensemble est pensé telle une installation poétique rendant hommage au tissu et à sa musicalité, aux outils et gestes répétitifs liés à sa conception.

Every fabric is a trace, a passage, a transmission in which our relation to intimacy is revealed by our sense of touch, of sight, a perfume, or a sound…
Whether we use it to cover, to wrap, to decorate or divide.
Each fragment, each thread, each stich, tells its own story.
The idea here is to draw together the symptoms of such a memory, melody or hidden word…

The pieces shown here are all part of my Master in Textile Design Diploma project: “RITOURNELLES/ RESONANT TEXTILES” honored with the sweetly named “Coups De Coeur La Cambre 2010 Award “

“Anneau de Moebius” and the “Bande Gymnopedique” reinterpret Erik Satie’s 1rst Gymnopédie with the alterations subsequant to the different
materials used, while a random score is composed by the “Dentelle sonore”.
Another process used here is the translation of an textile information into a musical information, by diverting weaving cards from their original fonction.
So when it comes to the “ Papier Peint Sonore”, the encoding of
a graphic design initialy destined to the weaving mill is transposed as a musical score.
Musical scales and ritornellos are here interpretated as sergés stripes, chevron patterns and satin weaves.
The visitor is invited to set in motion the music boxes, using the lace, hemstiched fabrics and sonorous wallpaper as a the physical music score.
“Ombrelle” is a hypnotic Mary Go Round , made from hundreds of spindles orchestrated by a fishing reel, while, as they clash, recreate the background noise of a lacemaker’s workroom.
My work aims to honor Fabric itself, its musicality, the intruments andrepetitives gestures of its conception into a poetic installation.
